The turn of the twentieth century brought forth some of America's most recognizable coinage, including the 1902 silver half dollar struck at the historic New Orleans Mint. This fifty-cent piece, carrying the distinctive 'O' mint mark, is composed of 90 percent silver, representing a total precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces (with some historical specifications noting up to 0.3617 troy ounces). Preserved in Fine condition, this coin offers a tangible look at the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin's obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap underneath a classical laurel wreath, surrounded by the national motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the 1902 year of issue. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned on its chest, while its beak holds a banner inscribed with 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. In its talons, the eagle firmly grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a balance of peace and readiness.
