1902-O Barber Half Dollar VG

In 1902, the United States Mint in New Orleans struck this silver half dollar, which carries a face value of 50 cents. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. This piece represents the Pre-1933 era of American coinage, showcasing a design created by Charles Barber that defined the look of silver coins at the turn of the twentieth century. The front of the coin depicts Lady Liberty looking right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. While the word Liberty is inscribed on her headband, this specific coin is in Very Good condition, meaning the rim is complete but the headband inscription is no longer visible. Overhead, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, flanked by stars representing the early states. The reverse side presents a heraldic eagle with a shield over its chest and wings stretched wide. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon displaying the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both readiness and peace. The mint mark O is positioned below the eagle, identifying its origin at the historic New Orleans facility.
