Struck in 1902 at the historic New Orleans Mint, this silver quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its heavily circulated Almost Good condition, the design elements of this turn of the century piece remain recognizable to those who appreciate early twentieth century currency. The obverse, designed by Charles Barber, presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Above her head, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, while the year 1902 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings wide, protecting a shield positioned at its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with UNUM, a nod to the national motto, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing strength. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds this central motif, with the quarter dollar denomination anchoring the design.
