1902-O Barber Quarter VG
Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this 1902 silver quarter represents a classic era of American coinage. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its circulated Very Good condition, key elements of its intricate design remain visible to the curious observer. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop a Phrygian cap. On this specimen, a portion of the word LIBERTY can still be discerned on her headband. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST arches above her head, with the year 1902 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings, bearing a protective shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual themes of peace and readiness. A full rim frames this reverse design, which also features the O mint mark, indicating its origin in New Orleans, positioned just above the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
