This silver fifty-cent piece from 1902 offers a tangible look at United States coinage from the early twentieth century. Minted at the San Francisco facility, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Having circulated heavily through daily commerce, the coin now displays heavily worn details, and its outer rim may show signs of slight wear, reflecting its long journey through hands and pockets over a century ago. The coin features the artistic work of Charles Barber. On the obverse, the profile of Lady Liberty is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. The reverse side presents a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a decorative banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and strength.
