This 1902 silver half dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of United States coinage. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived more than a century, this piece is preserved in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that once circulated actively in daily American commerce. The obverse features a stoic portrait of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a headband inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Above her head, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST is split across the upper rim, while the year 1902 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful eagle dominates the design with its wings fully spread. A protective shield covers the bird's chest, and its beak holds a flowing banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing strength. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arches over the top, while the denomination HALF DOLLAR is displayed below, just beneath the S mint mark indicating its San Francisco origin.
