The 1902 Barber quarter, minted in San Francisco, represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Struck with a purity of 90 percent silver, this twenty five cent piece carries a metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces of silver. It survives today in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated at the turn of the twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin features the profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, surrounded by the stars of the original colonies and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" along the upper rim, with the year 1902 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle is depicted with outstretched wings and a protective shield across its chest. In its beak, it holds a ribbon banner inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM", while its talons grasp an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows. The legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR" encircle this detailed patriotic motif.
