Struck in the early years of the twentieth century, this 1902 silver quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted at the San Francisco facility, as indicated by the small S mint mark, this piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Having circulated through daily commerce, its surfaces carry a Very Good grade, showing honest wear that tells a story of its long journey through time. The coin features the artistic work of Charles Barber. On the obverse, a regal profile of Lady Liberty faces right, her hair adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a secured laurel wreath. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is visible above her head, with the year 1902 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests upon its chest, while the bird holds a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. A flowing banner is clasped firmly in its beak, surrounded by the legend denoting the United States of America and the quarter dollar denomination.
