1903 Barber Quarter AU

In 1903, the Philadelphia Mint produced this silver quarter dollar, a piece that showcases the distinctive artistry of the era. Struck in 90 percent silver, this coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived more than a century in Almost Uncirculated condition, it retains much of the original detail that defined this circulating denomination at the turn of the twentieth century. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty, styled by designer Charles Barber. She wears a classic Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a traditional symbol of victory and honor. The word LIBERTY is visible on her headband, while the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed above her. The year 1903 is positioned at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, Barber placed a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and military readiness. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame this classic American motif.
