1903 Gold $1.00 Louisiana Purchase Jefferson MS-64 NGC
In 1903, the United States issued a special gold dollar to commemorate the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase. This coin, struck in 0.900 fine gold with a gold content of 0.0483 troy ounces, represents an early era of American commemorative coinage. The United States Mint produced a limited run of 17,500 of these pieces, which originally carried an issue price of three dollars. The obverse of the coin showcases a left-facing portrait of President Thomas Jefferson, designed by Charles Barber. On the reverse, the design features a symbolic olive branch alongside the dual dates of 1803 to 1903, marking the century that passed between the historic land acquisition and the coin's release.
