Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this 1903 silver half dollar showcases the enduring artistry of Charles Barber. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.3575 to 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. Having circulated through early twentieth-century commerce, this piece is preserved in Very Good condition, displaying honest wear that tells the story of its journey through time. The obverse presents a dignified portrait of Lady Liberty facing right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. On this circulated specimen, the word LIBERTY remains partially visible on her headband. Surrounding her profile are the stars of the original colonies, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned above and the year 1903 inscribed below. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the design with its wings outstretched. The eagle holds a scroll or banner in its beak bearing the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. A protective shield rests upon its chest, while its talons grasp an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows representing strength. The mint mark O is located beneath the eagle, identifying its origin at the southern mint, flanked by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR.
