1903-S Barber Half Dollar Fine

0.3575 troy oz .900 1903 Fine

Struck at the San Francisco Mint at the turn of the twentieth century, this 1903 silver half dollar showcases the enduring artistry of Charles Barber. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.3617 ounces of precious metal. Having circulated through early twentieth-century commerce, it now displays the honest wear characteristic of a Fine grade, preserving the essential details of its original engraving. The obverse side presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed upon her headband. Surrounding her portrait is the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside thirteen stars and the 1903 year of manufacture. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual ideals of peace and strength. The S mint mark sits below the eagle, identifying its origin at the San Francisco facility, framed by the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR.
