1903-S Barber Quarter Good

0.1788 troy oz .900 1903 Good

Struck in 1903 at the San Francisco Mint, this silver quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage. Made of 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It survives today in Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated during the early years of the twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head along with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her portrait, with the year 1903 anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows. The inscriptions on this side designate the issuing nation as the United States of America and denote the denomination as one quarter dollar.
