The turn of the twentieth century brought a distinct aesthetic to American coinage, beautifully captured in this 1904 silver quarter. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90% silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a fascinating era of United States currency, carrying the distinct artistic touch of its creator, Charles Barber. On the obverse side, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Above her head, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is clearly inscribed, while the year 1904 anchors the bottom of the design. The reverse side displays a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield covers the bird's chest, and its beak firmly holds a scroll bearing the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM". In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch representing peace and a collection of arrows symbolizing readiness, all surrounded by the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the "QUARTER DOLLAR" denomination.
