1905-S Barber Half Dollar XF-45 NGC

Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1905, this silver half dollar belongs to the celebrated Barber series. It contains 0.3575 troy ounces of silver, representing a 0.900 fineness. Out of a mintage of 2,494,000 pieces, this particular coin has survived the decades in an Extremely Fine 45 state of preservation, showing only moderate wear from its time in circulation during the early twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, with the word LIBERTY visible on her headband. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed above her, while the 1905 year of issue is positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOLLAR frame the central design. The small S mint mark, located below the tail feathers, identifies this coin as a product of the San Francisco facility.
