1905-S Barber Quarter Fine

0.1808 troy oz .900 1905 Fine

Minted in San Francisco, the 1905-S Barber Quarter represents a fascinating era of American silver coinage. This twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated at the turn of the twentieth century. The coin features the artistic work of Charles Barber. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in profile, wearing a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. Above her head, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, while the year of manufacture, 1905, is positioned at the bottom. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, protected by a central shield. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. The mint mark S is located below the eagle, indicating its origin at the San Francisco Mint.
