0.3575 troy oz .900 1906 Extra Fine

The year 1906 saw the production of this silver fifty-cent piece, a striking representative of United States coinage from the era before 1933. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, which equates to 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Extra Fine condition, the coin retains much of the crisp detail from its original striking, allowing observers to appreciate the artistry of its creator, Charles Barber. The front of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, with her hair bound up. The word LIBERTY is visible on her headband, while the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, arches above her head. The year of manufacture, 1906, is clearly stamped at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the field with its wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the bird's chest as it holds a banner inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM in its beak. In its talons, the eagle grasps both a leafy olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and military readiness. The surrounding inscriptions identify the issuing nation as the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and declare the face value as HALF DOLLAR.
