1906-O Barber Half Dollar VG
The 1906 half dollar represents a classic era of United States silver coinage, minted at the historic New Orleans facility. Struck from 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3575 troy ounces, this fifty-cent piece carries the distinctive design created by Charles Barber. It survives today in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated at the turn of the twentieth century. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted facing right, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath. A small ribbon on her cap displays the word LIBERTY, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is positioned above her portrait. The year 1906 is clearly stamped at the bottom of the design. The reverse side features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield is positioned over the bird's chest, and its beak holds a banner inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM. In its talons, the eagle grasps a symbolic olive branch alongside a cluster of arrows, representing both peace and defense. The country of origin and the half dollar denomination frame this central patriotic emblem.
