1906-S Barber Half Dollar VG
In 1906, the San Francisco mint struck this silver half dollar, a fifty-cent piece that carries 0.3575 troy ounces of actual silver content. This coin belongs to the celebrated Barber series, named after its creator, Charles Barber. Having circulated through early twentieth-century commerce, this specimen survives in Very Good condition, showing honest wear while preserving the core elements of its historic imagery. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, which is also adorned with a Phrygian cap. The year 1906 is anchored at the bottom of the design, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," arches above her image. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the bird's chest, and its beak holds a ribbon inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM." In its talons, the eagle grasps a symbolic olive branch alongside a bundle of arrows. The mint mark "S" is positioned below the eagle, confirming its origin at the San Francisco mint, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR."
