The year 1908 brought forth this fifty-cent piece, a striking example of United States coinage from the pre-1933 era. Struck in 90% fine silver, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the artistic vision of Charles Barber, whose influential work defined the look of American silver coinage at the turn of the twentieth century. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing the clear details of its original, robust engraving. On the obverse, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, her hair adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a secured laurel wreath. The word LIBERTY is visible on her headband, surrounded by the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the 1908 year of issue. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield covers the bird's chest, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon bearing the phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM, all framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR.
