1908-D Barber Quarter Fine

0.1788 troy oz .900 1908 Fine

Struck in 90 percent silver at the Denver Mint, this 1908 quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin carries a distinct aesthetic of the early twentieth century, combining traditional allegorical imagery with bold national symbols. This particular piece survives in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that once circulated actively in daily commerce. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Tucked within her hair, the word LIBERTY is clearly visible. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned along the upper rim and the year 1908 inscribed below. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the design with its wings fully spread. The bird holds a symbolic olive branch in one talon and a cluster of arrows in the other, representing the dual national ideals of peace and defense. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its beak holds a banner bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Denver Mint's "D" mint mark is located below the eagle, nestled between the main design and the denomination inscription of QUARTER DOLLAR.
