1908-O Barber Quarter Fine

In 1908, the New Orleans Mint struck this silver quarter, a piece of American coinage designed by Charles Barber. Composed of 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Given its Fine grade, the coin shows honest wear from its time in circulation, yet it retains the essential elements of its classic turn-of-the-century design. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. While the word Liberty is inscribed on her band, this detail may show weakness in certain areas due to the coin's circulated state. Above her head, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, with the year 1908 positioned below. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle spreads its wings wide, bearing a shield across its chest. The eagle grasps an olive branch in one claw and a cluster of arrows in the other, symbolizing peace and readiness. A banner is held aloft in its beak, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The 'O' mint mark below the eagle identifies this piece as a product of the legendary Louisiana facility.
