The year 1908 saw the production of a silver quarter at the historic New Orleans Mint, carrying a design that defined an era of American coinage. Crafted from 90% silver, this twenty five cent piece contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the Barber series, named after its creator, Charles Barber, whose work dominated the nation's pocket change at the turn of the twentieth century. On the obverse, the coin displays a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The word LIBERTY is inscribed clearly on her headband, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST arches above her and the year 1908 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, protecting a shield positioned on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows representing strength. The surrounding inscription reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, framing this classic emblem of national identity.
