The year 1908 saw the production of a classic silver quarter at the historic New Orleans Mint, marked by the distinctive 'O' mint mark. This coin, representing the Barber series, is composed of 90% silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that once circulated actively in early twentieth-century commerce. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the quarter presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, paired with a Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom. The word 'Liberty' is clearly inscribed on her headpiece, while the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' arches above her image, with the year 1908 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. The eagle bears a protective shield across its chest and grasps a banner in its beak. In its talons, it clutches both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, representing strength. The surrounding inscriptions read 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the denomination 'QUARTER DOLLAR'.
