In 1908, the United States Mint in New Orleans produced a silver quarter dollar that showcases the classic artistry of the era. Struck from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece represents a bygone era of American coinage, carrying a metal content of approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of silver (with about 0.17875 ounces of pure silver content). The obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a classic symbol of freedom and victory. A headband across her brow is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are the familiar national mottos and the 1908 year of issue. On the reverse, a detailed heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, it holds a ribbon banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows representing strength. This specific issue bears the letter O on the reverse, indicating it was struck at the historic New Orleans Mint.
