The year 1908 saw the production of a ten-cent silver piece at the San Francisco Mint, carrying a design that defined an era of American coinage. Minted in 90% silver, this Barber dime contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the coin retains the essential elements of its late nineteenth and early twentieth-century artistry, making it a compelling piece of tangible history to study. On the obverse side, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap underneath a classical laurel wreath. Surrounding her image are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" alongside the 1908 date. This design by Charles Barber presents a dignified, neoclassical representation of liberty that was widely circulated during this period. The reverse of the coin focuses on the face value, featuring the words "ONE DIME" boldly at the center. This denomination is encircled by a detailed wreath, which frames the text. Just below the wreath, the distinct "S" mint mark indicates its origin from the West Coast minting facility in San Francisco, adding a specific geographic connection to this century-old silver coin.
