In 1908, the San Francisco Mint struck a limited run of 1,644,828 silver half dollars. Designed by Charles Barber, this fifty-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of the precious metal. This specific specimen has survived in an exceptional state of preservation, certified at an About Uncirculated 53 grade, which highlights the fine details of its century-old artistry. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, layered over a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" arches above her portrait, while the year 1908 is positioned directly below. On the reverse, a majestic eagle dominates the design with its wings fully spread. A protective shield covers the bird's chest, and its beak holds a ribbon inscribed with the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". In its talons, the eagle grasps both a peaceful olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing readiness. The "S" mint mark is placed below the eagle, indicating its origin at the historic San Francisco facility.
