1908-S Barber Quarter VG

0.1788 troy oz .900 1908 Very Good

The year 1908 saw the San Francisco Mint strike a classic silver quarter designed by Charles Barber. Minted in 90 percent silver, this twenty five cent piece contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a fascinating era of American coinage, carrying the distinct artistry of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. On the obverse, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. A headband across her brow is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The reverse features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its beak firmly grasps a ribbon. In its talons, the eagle clutches both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense.
