1909 Barber Quarter AU

The year 1909 marked a classic era in United States coinage, beautifully represented by this Barber Quarter. Struck in 90% silver, this coin contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, it offers a wonderful opportunity to study the fine details of a design that circulated widely during the early twentieth century. On the obverse, Charles Barber's depiction of Lady Liberty facing right is showcased. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, layered over a traditional Phrygian cap. The word LIBERTY is clearly visible on her headband, surrounded by stars and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, with the date 1909 anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with wings fully spread, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR frame this classic design.
