The year 1909 marked a fascinating moment in American coinage, captured beautifully in this silver quarter minted in Denver. Struck with a purity of 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece represents a bygone era of United States currency. Despite its wear, the coin retains the essential character of its original engraving, carrying a metallic weight of 0.17875 troy ounces of silver. Created by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown in profile, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a delicate laurel wreath on her head. Above her image, the timeless national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the year 1909 is positioned clearly at the bottom. The reverse side features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield rests against the eagle's chest, while its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness.
