The 1909-O Barber dime represents a compelling moment in American coinage, marking the final year of production at the historic New Orleans Mint. Struck in 90% silver, this ten-cent piece contains approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin is a classic example of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century American currency design. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. On specimens graded in Good to Very Good condition, the full rim remains defined, though the word 'Liberty' on her headband is no longer visible. Surrounding her portrait are the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the 1909 year of issue. On the reverse, a detailed wreath of agricultural elements encircles the face value, 'ONE DIME'. The New Orleans 'O' mint mark is positioned at the bottom of the design. For coins in this circulated state, the reverse rim may appear slightly weak, yet the central design elements remain clearly identifiable, offering a tangible connection to the early twentieth century.
