Struck in the early twentieth century at the San Francisco Mint, this 1909 silver half dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Its design is the work of Charles Barber, whose artistic vision defined the look of multiple United States denominations during this period. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty facing right, adorned with a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath. In this Fine grade, the word Liberty remains partially visible on her headband, framed by a complete, well-defined rim. Above her head, the national motto reads, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Turning to the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the design with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests against the bird's chest, while its beak clasps a banner. In its talons, the eagle holds both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The San Francisco mint mark, a small letter S, is located below the eagle's tail feathers, marking its origin at the historic West Coast facility.
