1909-S Barber Half Dollar XF

0.3575 troy oz .900 1909 Extra Fine

Struck in the final years of the first decade of the twentieth century, this 1909 half dollar from the San Francisco Mint showcases the classic artistry of Charles Barber. Crafted from 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal, the coin has survived in remarkable Extra Fine condition, preserving the crisp details of its century-old imagery. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a symbol of victory and honor. The word Liberty is clearly inscribed upon her band, standing out as a central theme of the design. On the reverse, a powerful eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned over its chest, while the bird grasps an olive branch of peace in one claw and a bundle of arrows in the other. In its beak, the eagle holds a flowing banner inscribed with the motto E Pluribus Unum, completing a design that represents the strength and unity of the nation.
