1909-S Barber Quarter AG

0.1788 troy oz .900 1909 Almost Good

The year 1909 saw the production of this silver quarter dollar at the San Francisco Mint, marked by the distinctive 'S' mint mark. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.17875 troy ounces, this coin represents a classic era of United States coinage. It survives today in Almost Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated widely in early twentieth-century commerce. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, paired with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is positioned above her portrait, with the date 1909 inscribed below. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned across the eagle's chest, while its beak holds a decorative banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and military readiness.
