The 1909 silver quarter dollar from the San Francisco Mint represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces, this coin is a tangible survivor of early twentieth-century commerce. This particular specimen is preserved in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that once circulated widely. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, with a headband clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Above her portrait, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST is displayed, while the year 1909 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse showcases a powerful heraldic eagle with wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows symbolizing strength. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. The small S mint mark below the eagle's tail feathers identifies this piece as a product of the historic San Francisco Mint.
