1911-D Barber Half Dollar VF

The year 1911 marked a late chapter in the production of one of America's most recognizable silver coins. Minted in Denver, Colorado, this half dollar contains 0.3575 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent. This particular specimen survives in a Very Fine circulated state, displaying the moderate wear of a coin that likely passed through many hands during the early twentieth century. On the obverse side, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath. Her crown features a headband clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, while the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST arches above her head, flanked by the year 1911 at the bottom. This design is framed by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse side presents a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, a protective shield positioned over its chest. In its beak, the eagle grasps a ribbon displaying the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons hold both an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows, representing strength. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOLLAR encircle the central motif, with the distinctive D mint mark of the Denver facility positioned just below the eagle's tail feathers.
