In 1912, the Philadelphia Mint struck a mere 700 proof versions of the quarter dollar designed by Charles Barber. This specific coin has survived in an exceptional state of preservation, certified as a Proof 65 Cameo. The cameo designation highlights the beautiful, frosty contrast between the raised design elements and the highly reflective, mirror-like fields, a visual effect that is especially prized on these early twentieth-century silver issues. The obverse features a classic profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop a Phrygian cap. The word LIBERTY is visible on her band, surrounded by the year 1912 and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, an eagle stretches its wings, bearing a protective shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a scroll, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing both peace and readiness. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this piece contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal and bears no mint mark, indicating its origin at the Philadelphia facility.
