Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1913 silver half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in Very Good condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining its key design elements. The obverse presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, with the word LIBERTY partially visible on her headband. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed above her, with the year 1913 anchored at the bottom. This side of the coin captures a traditional symbol of American freedom that defined early twentieth-century pocket change. On the reverse, a bold heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle stands with wings outstretched, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, it holds a decorative banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows symbolizing strength. The mint mark S is located below the eagle, identifying its origin at the San Francisco facility.
