1913-S Barber Quarter AG-03 PCGS
The 1913-S Barber Quarter stands as a highly prized find for those exploring early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this silver piece is notable for its exceptionally low production run, with only 40,000 of these quarters ever minted. Composed of 90 percent silver and containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal, it represents a fascinating era in United States coinage. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin features a classic obverse depicting Lady Liberty looking to the right. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, which is also adorned with a Phrygian cap. Above her image, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 1913 is stamped clearly at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin displays a heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield is positioned across the bird's chest, while its beak holds a decorative banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. This intricate design is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR.
