1914 Barber Quarter Good
The 1914 silver quarter represents a classic era of United States coinage, carrying a design that circulated widely during the early twentieth century. Struck with a silver purity of 90 percent, this twenty-five cent piece contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It was produced at the Philadelphia Mint during a time of transition in America, just before the outbreak of the First World War. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin features a dignified portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted facing right, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath upon her head. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed boldly above her image, with the year 1914 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a detailed heraldic eagle commands attention. The eagle is shown with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, it holds a decorative banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows representing strength. The surrounding inscriptions designate the country of origin and the face value of the coin, reading "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR". This particular specimen survives in Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively passed through the hands of everyday Americans over a century ago.
