1914-D Barber Quarter AU
The year 1914 marked a classic era in American coinage, represented beautifully by this silver quarter dollar struck at the Denver Mint. Composed of 90 percent silver, this piece contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived more than a century in an exceptionally high grade of preservation, it is certified as Almost Uncirculated 58, showing only the slightest traces of friction from its brief time in circulation. On the obverse side, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath. The word LIBERTY is clearly visible on her headband, with the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned above her, and the date 1914 below. This elegant portrait was created by Charles Barber, whose artistic vision defined the look of America's silver coinage at the turn of the twentieth century. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Its talons grasp a symbolic olive branch of peace alongside a cluster of arrows, representing strength and readiness. The Denver mint mark, a small D, is located at the bottom of the design, beneath the eagle.
