1914-S Barber Quarter Good

0.1788 troy oz .900 1914 Good

The 1914 silver quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Minted with a silver purity of 90 percent, this coin contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It carries the distinctive 'S' mint mark, identifying its origin from the West Coast facility during a time of transitioning designs in the early twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin features a classical portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted facing right, wearing a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Above her head, the national motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is inscribed, while the year 1914 is positioned directly below the portrait. The reverse side of the coin presents a detailed heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests upon the eagle's chest, and its beak holds a banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. The inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'QUARTER DOLLAR' frame this powerful central design.
