1914-S Barber Quarter VG
The 1914 Barber Quarter from the San Francisco Mint represents a fascinating moment in United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece is highly sought after by enthusiasts due to its remarkably low mintage of only 264,000 pieces. This low production number makes the issue a notable rarity within the Barber series, which spanned from the late nineteenth century into the early twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin features a classic depiction of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" positioned above her head and the year 1914 below. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, protecting a shield on its chest. In its talons, the eagle holds an olive branch and a cluster of arrows, while a banner reading "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is clasped in its beak. The legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR" encircle the reverse design. This particular specimen is in Very Good condition. At this grade level, the coin displays honest wear from its time in circulation. The outer rim will exhibit wear and may show slight weakness, which is characteristic of a silver coin that actively circulated during the early decades of the twentieth century.
