The year 1916 marked the final chapter for one of America's most enduring silver coin designs. Created by Chief Engraver Charles Barber, this ten-cent piece offers a tangible connection to the early twentieth century, struck in 90% fine silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces. The obverse presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty, her head adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath. On examples in Good to Very Good condition, a century of circulation has softened the details, meaning the word "Liberty" is no longer visible, and the outer rim may appear slightly weak. Surrounding this central portrait, the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the date "1916" remain readable. On the reverse, a detailed agricultural wreath frames the face value, "ONE DIME". This simple yet elegant combination of wreath and denomination creates a balanced, utilitarian design that defined American pocket change for over two decades.
