Introduced during a transformative era in American coinage, the Standing Liberty quarter remains one of the most visually striking designs in United States history. These coins, which circulated widely in daily commerce, were minted from 1916 to 1930. Struck in 90% fine silver, a group of four of these quarters represents a total face value of one dollar and contains approximately 0.715 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse of the coin presents a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty standing in an opening between two stone walls. She is outfitted in chainmail, holding an olive branch of peace in one hand while raising a protective shield in the other. Legible inscriptions on this side include the word LIBERTY and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, flanking her figure. On the reverse, the design transitions to a dynamic image of an eagle soaring through the air with its wings fully spread. Surrounding the majestic bird are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR.
