In 1875, the Carson City Mint struck a remarkable silver coin designed specifically for international commerce. Known as the Trade Dollar, this coin contains 0.7874 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. The piece stands as a fascinating artifact of American monetary history, representing a time when the United States sought to expand its economic influence across the Pacific. The obverse of the coin features a seated representation of Lady Liberty, who holds an olive branch extended forward as a symbol of peace. Below her figure is the date 1875, accompanied by the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on a ribbon. The reverse showcases a powerful eagle clutching both arrows and an olive branch. The inscriptions on the reverse highlight the specific weight and purity of the coin, reading "420 GRAINS, 900 FINE," alongside "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TRADE DOLLAR." The famous "CC" mint mark is also visible on this side, indicating its origin in Nevada. This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, displaying crisp details in the engraving.
