In 1876, the Carson City Mint struck a remarkable silver coin designed specifically to facilitate international commerce. This Trade Dollar, containing 0.7874 troy ounces of fine silver, represents a fascinating era when American currency ventured across the globe. Preserved in About Uncirculated condition, this specimen retains much of the detail from its original striking in the historic Nevada mint. The obverse of the coin displays a seated figure of Lady Liberty, positioned on bales of merchandise. She holds an olive branch toward the sea, symbolizing peaceful trade, while the motto "In God We Trust" and the word "Liberty" are integrated into the design. The base of the obverse bears the date of 1876. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, grasping arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Below the eagle, the inscription reads "420 Grains, 900 Fine," indicating the exact weight and purity of the silver content. The famous "CC" mint mark is also visible on this side, confirming its origin from the Carson City facility.
