In 1917, the Denver Mint produced a distinctive run of Standing Liberty quarters, known today as the Type I variety. This particular silver coin, composed of 90 percent silver with an actual silver weight of 0.17875 troy ounces, represents a brief era in American coinage design. Out of a total mintage of 1,509,200 pieces, this specimen has survived in an exceptional state of preservation, certified as Mint State 64 with the highly sought-after Full Head designation, indicating an unusually sharp and complete strike on Liberty's portrait. The obverse design, created by sculptor Hermon MacNeil, presents a powerful image of Liberty stepping forward through an opening in a stone wall. In one hand she holds an olive branch, symbolizing peace, while her other arm supports a shield. The inscriptions on this face include the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" split on either side of the figure. The reverse displays a majestic eagle in full flight, flanked by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination expressed as "QUARTER DOLLAR."
