1917-D Standing Liberty Quarter Type-I VF

In 1917, the Denver Mint produced a distinct variety of the quarter dollar known to observers as the Type I Standing Liberty. This silver coin, struck with a purity of 90 percent, represents a brief window in American coinage before the design was modified. These pieces circulated widely until the mid twentieth century, when rising metal values and the introduction of base-metal clad coinage prompted their withdrawal from public circulation. The obverse features a powerful depiction of Liberty stepping forward through an opening in a wall. She is outfitted in chainmail, grasping an olive branch in one hand while holding a shield aloft with the other. The year 1917 is visible at her feet, accompanied by the inscription "IN GOD WE TRYST." On the reverse, a majestic eagle is captured mid-flight. This early Type I version is distinguished by the eagle soaring across an open field without stars positioned beneath its wings, a layout unique to the initial run of this classic series.
