The 1917 Standing Liberty quarter struck at the Denver Mint represents a fascinating moment in United States coinage. This particular issue features the original Type I design, which was only produced for a brief period. Minted in 90% silver with a total silver content of 0.1808 troy ounces, the coin is a remarkable example of early twentieth-century American engraving. On the obverse, Liberty is depicted walking forward through a stone gate, holding an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other. This side bears the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" along with the 1917 date and the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility. The reverse displays a majestic eagle in full flight, flanked by the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the name of the issuing nation, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
